Transportation to and from the Hilton Alexandria:

The Hilton Alexandria is located just 4 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).  The most inexpensive way to travel from the airport to the hotel is by way of the Metro.  It takes approximately 8 minutes once you are on the train and costs $1.35 one way.  The hotel is directly across from the King Street Metro Stop and Amtrak Station. If you prefer to take a taxi cab, it is approximately $18 for a fare one way. Hotel parking is also available at the prevailing rates. Current rates are as follows:

  • Overnight - $20.00

  • EARLY Bird – before  8:00 AM - $8.00

  • $8.00 Daily Rate - $10.00

The Hilton Alexandria will surround you with all the comforts of home during your trip to the conference. The hotel provides an onsite workout facility and a heated indoor pool.  The King Street Metro Stop is directly across the street for easy access to all of the sightseeing Washington DC has to offer. Meeting Rooms:

Our primary meeting / general session room will be located in the Grand Ballroom located on the Lobby Level of the Hotel. Our break out sessions will be held in the Washington and Jefferson rooms located on the Plaza Level of the hotel. Registration will be centrally located in the Grand Ballroom Foyer. This will be our central point for the entire conference.

Stop by, ask questions – we are here to make your experience a positive and memorable one. It is very important for us to have all of our meeting space in close vicinity to one another.  It helps to form a sense of GCSC community year after year by increasing our networking opportunities and affording more time together in the halls between sessions. It is also much easier on the feet!

Robert E. Lee Boyhood Home – Confederate General Robert E. Lee spent most of his boyhood years in the elegant mansion situated in Old Town Alexandria. National Zoo – Admission to the National Zoo is free! There is a charge or parking. The zoo is a 163-acre zoological park set amid Rock Creek National Park in the heart of Washington, D.C. Daryl Covey from NEXRAD, with all their weather information, checked out the average conditions for Alexandria, Virginia for the GCSC dates from their latest 30-year records. For the dates we'll be there:

Average high temperature = 73 degrees F.

Average low temperature = 53 degrees F.

Average rainfall averages one tenth inch per day.

Record high 96, record low 34

Record daily rainfall was 2.35" on May 7, 1886. (Yes, their data really does go back to 1886!)

Bottom line: GORGEOUS!
